What is the purpose of the programme?

The purpose of this skills programme is to provide people who are working as managers in a small business or junior managers in a larger organisation, to gain the skills and knowledge about business development. This programme will teach the learner about communication techniques, strategies to establish and maintain working place relationships, ethics and how this will improve organisational culture, develop a motor retail business brand and how to deliver the brand’s promise, measure customer satisfaction and create an innovative environment.

What are the learning outcomes?

Successful achievement of the course outcomes will enable learners to:

  • Use communication techniques effectively
  • Devised and apply strategies to establish and maintain workplace relationships
  • Apply the principles of ethics to improve organisational culture
  • Develop a motor retail business brand
  • Develop the motor retail business to deliver brand promise
  • Measure customer satisfaction within a business unit and recommend corrective action
  • Create and manage an environment that promotes innovation

How is the programme aligned?

This programme is a SAQA registered skills programme aligned to Unit Standards.

The alignment is as follows

Unit Standards:

Who is the target audience?

This skills programme is for people working as managers of small businesses and junior managers of units in larger organisations.

The learner should want to learn more about the following:

  • Communicating techniques
  • Establishing and maintaining workplace relationships
  • Improving the organisational culture using the principles of ethics
  • Developing a motor retail business brand
  • Developing the motor retail business to deliver brand promise
  • Measuring customer satisfaction and recommending corrective action
  • Creating and managing an environment that promotes innovation

What are the entry requirements?

  • It is assumed that the learner is competent in the following:

    • Communication at NQF level 4
    • Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 4
    • Computer Literacy at NQF level 4.

How is the programme structured?

The unit standards of the qualification have been collated into the following seven modules:

  • Communication techniques
  • Establish and maintain workplace relationships
  • Apply the principles of ethics
  • Build a motor retail business brand
  • Deliver brand promise
  • Measure brand promise and customer satisfaction
  • Promote innovation

How will the course be delivered and assessed?

Facilitation strategy

We offer our clients various facilitation methods based on specific needs. This can include in-person, on-line, virtual facilitation methods or a combination of any of these. Various learning techniques, such as simulations, roleplays, and presentations are used. Facilitators give feedback on participation, strengths, and areas for improvement. Practical application is crucial, requiring learners to apply knowledge in their daily work under supervision.

Assessment strategy

  • Formative assessment is conducted throughout the programme during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
  • Summative assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the workplace and complete a logbook.

What are the workplace requirements?

Outcomes-based qualifications require application of skills in the workplace. Learners must be exposed to all outcomes related to the Unit Standard; this would include all activities related to planning, preparing, conducting and evaluating business development.

For this course, therefore the following human and physical resources are required:

  • A meeting room with relevant meeting equipment such as flip charts, projector ect.
  • Your own team members to attend meetings
  • A laptop or computer that has Microsoft PowerPoint

What workplace activities will need to be completed?

Some of the practical workplace activities for this course include the following:

  • Measuring customer satisfaction within a business unit and recommend corrective action
  • Creating and managing an environment that promotes innovation
  • Developing a plan for creating an environment more conducive to innovation
  • Leading a team through a creative thinking process
  • Demonstrating that you can deliver on your brand promise by answering questions given
  • Leading discussions and chair meetings as well as delivering presentations
  • Devising and applying strategies to establish and maintain workplace relationships and relationships with managers
  • Identifying and minimizing conflict in your business unit
  • Applying the principles of ethics to improve organisational culture
  • Developing and submitting a PowerPoint presentation where you discuss obligations for ethical conduct in South Africa organisations with refence to specific criteria given
  • Analysing your target markets and current business processes to identify sources of competitive advantage
