Short Term Training: Forklifting

About Course

This curriculum has been developed by a group of experienced trainers and is based on international standards that have been localised to suit the Ethiopian environment. This curriculum is intended to be used as a training guide in various regions.

This short training programme is aimed at persons who have the responsibility to lift and move material by means of a forklift. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this short programme will promote general skills to safely operate a lift truck, and efficiently move and stack materials within an agro-processing work environment, in compliance with lift truck manufacturers’ and legislated standards.

Applying occupational health and safety legislation and standards when operating a forklift.
Identifying and applying forklift components, attachments, and controls.
Operating a forklift safely.
Performing pre-start and after start safety checks.
Applying operational requirements of a forklift.
Applying lifting, securing, transferring, and positioning techniques.
Applying stacking and de-stacking principles of loads.
Performing post-operation inspection and servicing according to workplace procedures.
Interpreting and applying forklift hand signals and safety signage when operating a forklift.
