1. Foundational communication (20 credits)
Element 1: Reading – Read and understand a range of text types, extract and use information, and make critical judgments.
Element 2: Writing – Write a variety of texts to record and information and ideas.
Element 3: Speaking and listening – Interact orally with others with a reasonable degree of confidence for a number of purposes.
Element 4: Visual literacy – Read and produce visual texts.
Element 5: Language structure and use – Use knowledge of grammar in order to understand and communicate effectively through reading, writing, speaking. and listening.
Element 6: Study skills – Use the language of learning and teaching (LOLT) effectively for occupational learning and training.
Element 7: Workplace terminology – understanding of general workplace terminology.
2. Mathematical Literacy (20 credits)
Element 1: Numbers – Use numbers in a variety of forms to describe and make sense of situations, and to solve problems in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.
Element 2: Finance – Manage personal finances using financial documents and related formulae.
Element 3: Data and chance – Collect, display, and interpret data in various ways and solve related problems.
Element 4: Measurement – Make measurements using appropriate measuring tools and techniques and solve problems in various measurement contexts.
Element 5: Space and shape – Describe and represent objects and the environment in terms of spatial properties and relationships.
Element 6: Patterns and relationships – Describe, show, interpret and solve problems involving mathematical patterns, relationships, and functions.
Note: It is not compulsory to complete both foundational communication and mathematical literacy modules and can be completed independently.
