Unit Standards
The fundamental component consists of Unit Standards, to the value of 34 credits all of which are compulsory.
The core component consist of Unit Standards to the value of 70 credits all of which are compulsory.

US 336707: Demonstrate an understanding of the key issues important for compliance with corporate governance principles and social responsibility (6 Credits)
US 336705: Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of international trade and execute international purchases (5 Credits)
US 336682: Process customer orders (5 Credits)
US: 336703: Design a distribution network (5 Credits)
US 336704: Prepare products for transportation; manage the return of goods and warehousing (10 Credits)

Who is the target audience?
This qualification is intended for individuals working in, or who aspire to work in, operational to middle management positions within the various processes of the supply chain, who also:Â
Seek to understand a supply chain management environment within an organisation
Wish to demonstrate an understanding of the influence of performance and risk within a supply chain management environment
Aim to contribute to the development of a supply chain strategy and operational plans for the organisation
Aspire to execute a supply chain strategy for the organisation
What are the entry requirements?
Learners must meet the following criteria to enter the programme:
Communications at NQF Level 4
Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4
Computer Literacy and the ability to use databases and spreadsheets at NQF Level 3
What is the purpose of the programme?
This qualification is aimed at overcoming the traditional function approach to operations and management, and at fostering supply chain integration to the advantage of stakeholders. The National Treasury developed competency profiles for the public sector in terms of supply chain management. This qualification meets some of those public sector needs and is also suitable for the private sector.
This programme addresses the demand to equip supply chain practitioners with the skills to understand and respond to the evolving management environment. It enables them to be effective leaders, fostering innovation, creativity, and competitiveness. The programme emphasises the management and development of sustainable supplier relationships, measurement, and improvement of supply chain performance. It also covers the analysis, assessment, management, and mitigation of risks, as well as the development and management of legal and contractual arrangements in purchasing and supply.
What are the learning outcomes?
The learning outcomes from the qualification exit level outcomes will enable learners to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the supply chain management environment within an organisation
Demonstrate an understanding of the influence of performance and risk within a supply chain management environment
Contribute to the development of a supply chain strategy and operation plans for the organisation
Manage the execution of a supply chain strategy for the organisation
How is the programme structured?
The unit standards of the qualification have been collated into the following 6 modules:
1.Strategic Supply Chain Management Principles
2.Operational Relationships in the Supply Chain
3.Continuous Improvement and Performance Management
4.Risk Management, Corporate Governance and Ethical SCM
5.International Trade and Procurement
6.Warehousing and Distribution
Note: Credit Accumulations and Transfer (CAT) exemption for specific Unit Standards is applicable to approved learners and CAT applications for approval will be provided on request.
Approved learners will have reduced contact days.
How will the course be delivered and assessed?
Facilitation strategy
We offer our clients various facilitation methods based on specific needs. This can include in-person, on-line, and virtual facilitation methods or a combination of any of these. Various learning techniques, such as simulations, roleplays, and presentations are used. Facilitators give feedback on participation, strengths, and areas for improvement. Practical application is crucial, requiring learners to apply knowledge in their daily work under supervision.
Assessment strategy
Formative Assessment is conducted throughout the programme during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
Summative Assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the workplace and complete a logbook.
Final Integral Assessment (FISA) is conducted at the end of the qualification and learners are only eligible for the FISA once competent for all modules. The FISA will consist of assessment of knowledge, practical and reflexive components although these may be integrated.
What are the workplace requirements?
Outcomes-based qualifications require application of skills in the workplace. For this qualification the following human and physical resources are required:
Workplace mentor/supervisor and specialists in relevant departments
Recourses: PC access with MS office and internet access
Suitable workplace with access to the following:
o Company policies, strategic objectives, metrics, contracts etc.
o Industry specific legislation and other relevant departments
o Staff members, colleagues and all relevant departments
o Exposure/access to applicable processes and procedures
Learners must be exposed to all outcomes related to the qualification, this would include all activities and processes related to supply chain management
What workplace activities will need to be completed?
Learners receive a logbook providing guidelines for workplace integration activities and in some cases specific workplace assignments to be conducted with evidence collection.
Some of the practical workplace activities for this qualification include the following:
Provide evidence of leading, managing and influencing the supply chain within the work environment Substantiate personal contribution to the development of a culture of productivity and change within the work environment
Provide a company document reflecting strategy on customer relationships, or, write a brief report detailing strategies applied to manage customer relationships
Critically evaluate the current logistic system used within the work environment, indicate which areas require improvement and how to go about implementing improvement
Draw the organisation’s channel of distribution indicating all the stakeholder involved. Then indicate use of a centralised or decentralised distribution strategy by addressing the advantages of such a strategy to an organisation
