This programme enables individuals to effectively use and care for a range of power tools including but not limited to drilling machines, grinders, sanders, brushes, riveters, buffs, wrenches (including impact type), saws and tacks. The programme also covers but is not limited to clamping, changing blades, replacing, adjustment or setting up, cleaning, lubricating and tightening tools as required, as well as the safety precautions and the use of PPE.

This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment.

ENTRY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

Safety procedures according to statutory and manufacturer requirements
Induction to industry
Basic electrical safety
Use of hand tools
KVR pre-assessment

COURSE OUTCOMES

Select a power tool pertaining to specific job requirements.
Use fixed power tools.
Use portable power tools.
Caring for and storing of power tools and their accessories.
