What is the purpose of this programme

The purpose of this course is to provide recognition to anyone wishing to coach individuals in a business environment for the purpose of improving the level of performance needed to meet a team’s required service levels. This programme provides delegates with the skills to develop action plans for coaching team members and to apply coaching skills and methodologies in the workplace.

What are the learning outcomes?

Successful achievement of the course outcomes will enable learners to:

  • Explain the concept of coaching in a business environment
  • Demonstrate skills and techniques required of a coach
  • Develop an action plan to coach two team members
  • Gather evidence and monitor progress of team members

How is the course aligned?

This is an accredited short course aligned to Unit Standard 1139091: Coach a team member in order to enhance individual performance in work environment. Total credits: 15; NQF level 3.

Entry level requirements

There is open access to this Unit Standard. Learners should be competent in Communication and Mathematical and Financial Literacy at Level 2.

Who is the target audience?

This course is intended for leaders and other staff members who are responsible for assisting team members with the achievement of objectives and goals in the workplace. It is assumed that learners attending this course are already competent in the learning area in which they will provide coaching.

How will the course be delivered and assessed?

Facilitation strategy

 

KVR Training offers our clients various facilitation methods based on specific needs. This can include in-person, on-line, virtual facilitation methods or a combination of any of these. Various learning techniques, such as simulations, roleplays and presentations are used. Facilitators give feedback on participation, strengths, and areas for improvement. Practical application is crucial, requiring learners to apply knowledge in their daily work under supervision.

 

Assessment strategy

 

  • Formative assessment is conducted throughout the course during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the Facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
  • Summative assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the Summative Assessment Workbook.

What are the workplace requirements?

Outcomes-based programmes require application of skills in the workplace. Learners must be exposed to all
outcomes related to the Unit Standard; this would include all activities related to applying the skills and techniques required of a coach.


For this course, therefore the following human and physical resources are required:

  • A working business unit, cost centre or department.
  • A staff member or members who require coaching in the workplace. Coaching opportunities related to work specific tasks and processes need to be addressed.

What workplace activities will need to be completed?

Some of the practical workplace activities for this programme include the following:

  • Development of action plans to coach two team members
  • Coaching two team members
  • Gathering evidence and monitoring team member progress in coached tasks
  • Providing feedback and changing coaching approach where appropriate
