What is the purpose of the programme?

The demand for emotional intelligence (EI) skills is on the rise as companies increasingly recognise the value of emotionally intelligent leadership in fostering collaborative, resilient and adaptable work environments. This course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of how EI contributes to effective leadership. It covers essential aspects of EI in order to equip learners with skills to build strong interpersonal relationships and to foster a positive and productive work environment.

What are the learning outcomes?

Successful achievement of the course outcomes will enable learners to:

  • Explain the concept of emotional intelligence and its impact on leadership
  • Apply techniques to respond to situations in an emotionally intelligent manner
  • Analyse the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-awareness, self-management and social awareness in relation to leadership

How is the course aligned?

This is an accredited short course aligned to Unit Standard 120305: Analyse the role that emotional intelligence plays in leadership. Total credits 8; NQF level 5.

Who is the target audience?

Any leader wishing to improve their leadership by means of improving their emotional intelligence will benefit from this course. This Unit Standard will also be useful to learners who are working within the public sector, local government, commercial or community environments. Additionally, public officials involved in integrated development planning, public sector management or administration specialities will find value in attending.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must meet the following criterion to enrol on the course:

  • Communication at NQF Level 4

  • Emotional intelligence models
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship management
  • Self esteem
  • Stress management
  • Understanding the true cost of values and beliefs
  • The role of EI on our interpersonal relationships

How will the course be delivered and assessed?

Facilitation strategy

 

KVR Training offers our clients various facilitation methods based on specific needs. This can include in-person, on-line, virtual facilitation methods or a combination of any of these. Various learning techniques, such as simulations, roleplays and presentations are used. Facilitators give feedback on participation, strengths, and areas for improvement. Practical application is crucial, requiring learners to apply knowledge in their daily work under supervision.

 

Assessment strategy

 

  • Formative assessment is conducted throughout the course during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the Facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
  • Summative assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the Summative Assessment Workbook.

What are the workplace requirements?

Outcomes-based programmes require application of skills in the workplace. Learners must be exposed to all outcomes related to the Unit Standard; this would include all activities related to analysing the role that emotional intelligence plays in leadership.

For this course therefore, the learner needs to be an active member of a workplace / community team.  

What workplace activities will need to be completed?

Some of the practical workplace activities for this course include the following:

  • Self-assess emotional intelligence competencies using a questionnaire
  • Report on strengths and areas for improvement
  • Select and indicate three appropriate techniques to improve areas of weakness
  • Gather and document feedback from three trusted individuals about competence in various emotional intelligence factors
