This programme is a QCTO occupational qualification and will consist of knowledge modules, practical modules and work experience modules, as explained in the qualification rules.
Unit Standards
The fundamental component consists of Unit Standards to the value of 36 credits all of which are compulsory.
The core component consists of Unit Standards to the value of 70 credits all of which are compulsory.
The following elective Unit Standards to a value of 36 credits have been selected:
US 13915: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS in a workplace, and its effects on a business sub-sector, own organisation and a specific workplace (4 Credits)
US 13929: Co-ordinate meetings, minor events and travel arrangements (3 Credits)
US 119713: Apply basic HR principles in a new venture (4 Credits)
US 9964: Apply health and safety to a work area (3 Credits)
US 119671: Administer contracts for a selected new venture (10 Credits)
US 119712: Tender for business or work in a selected new venture (8 Credits)
US 14341: Keep informed about current affairs related to one’s own industry (4 Credits)

What is the purpose of the programme?
The future of South Africa’s economy does not just lie in the formal sector, but within the informal SMME sector too. The purpose of the NQF Level 2 New Venture Creation qualification is to provide a qualification that equips potential and existing entrepreneurs to capitalise on opportunities to start and grow sustainable businesses. The intention is that these businesses grow to form part of the mainstream economy, enabling the learners to tender for business opportunities within both the public and private sectors.
The design and establishment of this entrepreneurship qualification aims to address the economic/administrative and behavioural barriers that contribute to failures in starting and sustaining an enterprise. Additionally, it aims to create long-term solutions for job creation and SMME development.
What are the learning outcomes?
The learning outcomes from the qualification exit level outcomes will enable learners to:
Use basic mathematics in order to fulfil new venture functions effectively
Apply basic communication skills in a new venture creation context
Determine market requirements and manage the relevant marketing and selling processes
Demonstrate an understanding of the sector/industry in which the business operates
Determine financial requirements and manage financial resources of a new venture
Manage business operations
How is the programme structured?

Note: Credit Accumulations and Transfer (CAT) exemption for specific Unit Standards is applicable to approved learners and CAT applications for approval will be provided on request.Â
Approved learners will have reduced contact days.
How will the course be delivered and assessed?
Facilitation strategy
We offer our clients various facilitation methods based on specific needs. This can include in-person , on-line, virtual facilitation methods or a combination of any of these. Various learning techniques, such as simulations, roleplays, and presentations are used. Facilitators give feedback on participation, strengths, and areas for improvement. Practical application is crucial, requiring learners to apply knowledge in their daily work under supervision.
Assessment strategy
Formative Assessment is conducted throughout the programme during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
Summative Assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the workplace and complete a logbook.
Final Integral Assessment (FISA) is conducted at the end of the qualification and learners are only eligible for the FISA once competent for all modules. The FISA will consist of assessment of knowledge, practical and reflexive components although these may be integrated.
What are the workplace requirements?
Outcomes-based qualifications require application of skills in the workplace. For this qualification the following human and physical resources are required:

Diverse spectrum of documents, policies and copies of business processes such as:
     o Guides referring to learning opportunities
     o Meeting minutes, e mails, reports, financial statements / documents, customer feedback
     o Work-related documents showing measurements and calculations
     o Industry specific compliance requirements, procurement documents, codes of conduct, OHS policies
     o Sales quotes/ proposals, receipts etc.
Access to printer, PC with MS Office and internet
Exposure to all outcomes related to the qualification; this would include all entrepreneurship activities
What workplace activities will need to be completed?
Learners receive a logbook providing guidelines for workplace integration activities and in some cases specific workplace assignments to be conducted with evidence collection.
Some of the practical workplace activities for this qualification include the following:
Identify 3 business opportunities in your area and within your field of interest. Then complete entrepreneurial profiles on each to analyse your strengths and weaknesses (technical, business, managerial and personal) in relation to your preferred business
Submit at least 2 workplace documents on which you plotted, analysed and interpreted data to solve a problem or answer a question
Research and list the industry/sector compliance requirements applicable to your new venture. Paragraph saying how you will ensure that all the requirements are incorporated into the operations of your new venture
Compile a business plan for your new venture that incorporates your market research and your financial statements
Determine suitable ways in which to promote your product/service and submit your promotional designs or pamphlets /flyers/advertisements
Draw and submit a flowchart showing how to implement change and dispute processes in your business
