How is the course aligned?
This is an accredited short course aligned to Unit Standard 116284: Solve operational problems in a manufacturing/assembly context. Total credits: 10 NQF level 4. Â
Who is the target audience?
This short course is ideal for any individual who requires problem solving skills in order to solve operational problems in a manufacturing context and/or assembly process. Those overseeing individual and team activities in manufacturing and/or assembly processes would also find value in this course, as it is part of a series of unit standards, enabling qualifying learners to progress to higher levels of learning.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners are assumed to be competent in:
Communication at NQF Level 3
Applying principles of policy and procedure implementation at NQF Level 3
Demonstrating an understanding of the organisation and its functions in which problems are to be solved and decisions made at NQF Level 3

Assessment strategy

Formative assessment is conducted throughout the programme during the facilitated sessions. Assessment activities are included in the Formative Assessment Workbook and will be checked by the facilitator. Learners are expected to complete all the activities in their workbooks.
Summative assessment is conducted at the end of the foundational training phase. Learners are expected to complete summative assessment activities in the Summative Assessment Workbook.
What are the workplace requirements?
Outcomes-based programmes require application of skills in the workplace. For this programme, the following human and physical resources are required:
Suitable workplace with access to the following:
Workplace documents e.g. policies and procedures
Post-it notes, flip chart paper for mind mapping and brainstorming exercises
PowerPoint Presentation if required
Meeting room to hold meeting
Relevant stakeholders to attend a meeting
Learners must be exposed to all outcomes related to the unit standard; this would include all activities related to problem solving in a manufacturing context and or assembly line
What workplace activities will need to be completed?
Some of the practical workplace activities for this programme include the following:
Identifying a potential work-related problem, then holding a problem-solving session
Drawing up and submitting an action plan to solve the problem
