We are on the brink of a new era in training and education. The Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) system is making a significant shift to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), bringing many benefits. Â
This transition is guided by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, who has published a Government Gazette with directives for implementing and transitioning pre-2009 qualifications under the SAQA Act of 1995. The QCTO, SAQA, and DHET are working together to make this shift smooth and improve the national education system.Â
Â
Starting in June 2024, new measures will ensure all qualifications are relevant, current, and aligned with industry needs. This means phasing out pre-2009 qualifications and introducing high-quality occupational qualifications. Â
Â
The QCTO, in collaboration with SETAs, has provided a detailed list of qualifications affected by this change. Some qualifications will be extended for one to two years, allowing new qualifications to be registered and training providers to become accredited.Â
Â
We are approaching these changes with a solutions-driven mindset, keeping our clients' needs at the forefront. While there are still questions about the transition and its impact on daily training, we are confident in our ability to find innovative and practical solutions to any challenges that may arise.Â
